Using Windows Flip and Windows Flip 3D

Windows Aero, originally introduced in Windows Vista is a major improvement to the Graphical User Interface (GUI) in Windows 7. It provides glass style interfaces, subtle window animations, window colors, Taskbar thumbnails, Windows Flip, Windows Flip 3D, Aero Peek and Aero Shake. In this article, I will examine how to play with Windows Flip and Windows Flip 3D techniques.

In order to activate Windows Flip, you should select Alt+Tab key combination. As soon as you click on the keys, a live thumbnails of all the active windows will be displayed in the middle of the screen.

On the other hand, Windows Flip 3D creates a three dimensional view of all the open windows. Once you activated the view, simply use the scroll wheel on your mouse to navigate and select the stack of windows you would like to open.

Hence, Windows Flip and Windows Flip 3D are completely different and you will know its difference only if you practically work with it once. Windows 7 is designed to work faster and the above feature will be useful for all users if they understood the logic behind them.

Introducing Aero Shake

Aero shake is a new feature which has been introduced in Windows 7. The advantage of this feature is that all inactive windows will be automatically minimized upon just shaking any one of the active window.

Follow the steps mentioned below to experience the functioning of this feature

(1) Open Calculator – Type calc in “Search programs and files” box
(2) Open NotePad
(3) Open WordPad
(4) Open Paint
(5) Open a text document
(6) Open Word 2010

In order to perform a Aero shake, go to the title bar, click on it and gently shake the trackball of your mouse by clicking on the left side of the mouse. You need not have to shake the entire mouse but should not release the hand from the left side of the mouse. That’s it. The inactive windows will be minimized and pinned to the taskbar.

The above step may differ in your case if you use mouse other than Logitech Trackball. Aero shake is available only in higher versions of Windows 7 which supports Aero. You should have a minimum of 2 GB of RAM to have a smooth working experience with Aero.

Please also note that all your sticky notes will also be pinned to the Taskbar as a result of Aero Shake. In the next article, I will discuss about Sticky Notes.
